Case for the Iris keyboard. The cases consists of two sets of parts, top/bottom plates and middle layers. The middle layers are optional and can be added in between the top and bottom plates at any time.

Screws and standoffs are included, enough to fill the holes along the perimeter of the plates. The inner holes do not need to be filled and parts are not supplied for those holes.

Info on available parts and Iris Rev. 3/4 compatibility:

All of the plates and mid layers are compatible with Rev. 3/4, although some bottom plates do not have a cutout for the reset button. Some of the plate options are not compatible with 2u thumb keys, so here's a bit more info about it.

  • Stainless Steel Plates: Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations
  • FR4 Plates: Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations, top and bottom plates are made of FR4
  • (New!) Carbon Fiber Plates: Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations, about 1.6mm thick
  • (New!) Choc-only FR4 Plates: 1.2mm thick switch plates, square cutouts to support Choc switches
  • Acrylic Plates - Clear: Compatible with 1u configuration, 2u possible without stabs, no reset hole
  • Acrylic Plates - Black: Same as the clear plates
  • Acrylic Plates - Purple/Blue/Green: Compatible with all configurations
  • Acrylic Middle Layers:- Only compatible with Rev. 3/4, cutouts are not large enough for Rev. 2 USB and reset button
  • Aluminum Plates - Black (B-stock): Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations, black side may have marks, switches may have alignment issues

Top/Bottom Plates

Plates for the Iris are offered in these variants:

    • Aluminum PCB material
      • Stiffer than the FR-4 PCB material
      • Switch plates have black both sides
        • Bottom plates have black on one side, bare aluminum on the other. Bare aluminum side may have various scratches on it, not guaranteed to be pristine on that side
      • Exterior screw design
      • 1.5mm thick
      • Kailh Low-Profile Choc version
        • Only supports 1u keys
        • 1.2mm thick instead of 1.5mm
        • Comes with 8mm standoffs instead of 12mm ones
        • Can also be used for MX switches
    • Acrylic
      • 3mm thick
      • Top and bottom layers
      • Same design as the stainless steel plates
      • NOTE: For the black and clear plates, the stab notch is not large enough, so it’s not compatible with 2u stabs without modifying the plate
    • Stainless Steel
      • 16 gauge (1.56mm) 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish
      • Screws and standoffs are along the outside border of the plates

The plates come with the following:

    • 2 Switch plates
    • 2 Bottom plates
    • For the PCB plates w/interior screws:
      • 20 M2 6mm screws
      • 10 M2 12mm standoffs
    • For the stainless steel, acrylic, and PCB plates w/exterior screws:
      • 40 M2 6mm screws
      • 20 M2 12mm standoffs (steel, PCB, and acrylic plates) or 10mm standoffs for KLP plates

Switch plates are compatible with MX and Alps switches and support MX switch top removal. Note that for the non-1u cutouts however, the switches won't have anything on the plate to grab on to, so you need to be careful with alignment when soldering the switch.

The design files used for the Iris will be made available here, in case you'd like to make your own pieces: Iris Case Files

      Middle layer

This 12mm thick middle layer is used to encase the area between the top and bottom plates. Most pieces actually measure between 11.4-11.8mm, so 11mm standoffs may be more preferable to prevent the mid pieces from rattling. Compatible with the stainless steel, aluminum, or acrylic plates and the design posted on GitHub.

NOTE for Clear Tented Mid: This middle layer is 10mm (actual varies between 9.4mm-10.0mm), so 9mm standoffs are included for that item.

For the tented middle layer, you can use M6 or 1/4" carriage bolts to tent the board.

Note: This is not compatible with the PCB plates with the 5 interior screws that were offered a long while ago, but is compatible with the PCB plates that have exterior screws.
