Case for the Iris keyboard. The cases consists of two sets of parts, top/bottom plates and middle layers. The middle layers are optional and can be added in between the top and bottom plates at any time.

Info on available parts and Iris Rev. 3 compatibility:

All of the plates are compatible with Rev. 3, although some bottom plates do not have a cutout for the reset button. Some of the plate options are not compatible with 2u thumb keys, so here's a bit more info about it.

  • Aluminum PCB Plates - Black/Aluminum: Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations
  • Aluminum PCB Plates - MX and 1u only: Compatible with 1u configuration only. Also, black side of plate has odd markings on it, so only the metal side should be used
  • Acrylic Plates - Clear: Compatible with 1u configuration, 2u possible without stabs, no reset hole
  • Acrylic Plates - Black: Same as the clear plates
  • Acrylic Plates - Purple/Blue/Green: Compatible with all configurations
  • Acrylic Middle Layers:- Only compatible with Rev. 3, cutouts are not large enough for Rev. 2 USB and reset button
  • Aluminum PCB Plates - Black/Aluminum (B-stock): Compatible with 1u & 2u configurations, no hole for reset button on bottom plates, black side and metal side may have marks

Top/Bottom Plates

Plates for the Iris are offered in these variants:

    • Aluminum PCB material
      • Stiffer than the FR-4 PCB material
      • Black on one side, bare aluminum on the other side
        • Bare aluminum side may have various scratches on it, not guaranteed to be pristine on that side
      • Exterior screw design
      • 1.5mm thick
      • Kailh Low-Profile version
        • Only supports 1u keys
        • 1.2mm thick instead of 1.5mm
        • Comes with 11mm standoffs instead of 12mm ones
        • Can also be used for MX switches
    • Acrylic
      • 3mm thick
      • Top and bottom layers
      • Same design as the stainless steel plates
      • NOTE: For the black and clear plates, the stab notch is not large enough, so it’s not compatible with 2u stabs without modifying the plate
    • Stainless Steel
      • 16 gauge (1.56mm) 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish
      • Note that the backside of each plate may have scratches on it, but they are hidden when the board is assembled
      • Screws and standoffs are along the outside border of the plates

The plates come with the following:

    • 2 Switch plates
    • 2 Bottom plates
    • For the PCB plates w/interior screws:
      • 20 M2 6mm screws
      • 10 M2 12mm standoffs
    • For the stainless steel, acrylic, and PCB plates w/exterior screws:
      • 40 M2 6mm screws
      • 20 M2 12mm standoffs (steel, PCB, and acrylic plates) or 10mm standoffs for KLP plates

Switch plates are compatible with MX and Alps switches and support MX switch top removal. Note that for the non-1u cutouts however, the switches won't have anything on the plate to grab on to, so you need to be careful with alignment when soldering the switch.

The design files used for the Iris will be made available here, in case you'd like to make your own pieces: Iris Case Files

      Middle layer

This 12mm thick middle layer is used to encase the area between the top and bottom plates. Compatible with the stainless steel, aluminum, or acrylic plates and the design posted on GitHub.

For the tented middle layer, you can use M6 or 1/2" carriage bolts to tent the board.

Note: This is not compatible with the PCB plates with the 5 interior screws, but is compatible with the PCB plates that have exterior screws.
