11/29/2017 Status: Stainless steel plates have arrived, and we are currently doing QC on them and pre-packing them before fulfilling orders.

Case for the Iris keyboard. The cases consists of two sets of parts, top/bottom plates and middle layers. The middle layers are optional and can be added in between the top and bottom plates at any time.

Pre-Ordering Note:

Only the PCB plates are available to ship immediately, the stainless steel plates and acrylic cases are setup for pre-orders.

Note: Ordering any of the pre-order items will delay your shipping for your order until the parts arrive. If you'd like the other, non-pre-order parts shipped immediately, please create a separate order. Thank you for your understanding.

Top/Bottom Plates

Plates for the Iris are offered in these variants:

  • PCB material
    • These plates are made from 1.6mm PCB material (FR-4)
    • The flex is comparable to 3mm acrylic
    • Screws and standoffs are in the interior of the plates
  • Stainless Steel (Pre-Order)
    • 16 gauge (1.56mm) 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish
    • Note that the backside of each plate may have scratches on it, but they are hidden when the board is assembled
    • Screws and standoffs are along the outside border of the plates
  • Acrylic Case (Pre-Order)
    • Top, middle, and bottom layers (You do not need to order the "Acrylic Middle Layer" item for this)
    • Same design as the stainless steel plates
    • Colors: Clear, Black, Milky White

The plates come with the following:

  • 2 Switch plates
  • 2 Bottom plates
  • 8 Adhesive bumper pads
  • For the PCB plates:
    • 20 M2 6mm screws
    • 10 M2 11mm standoffs
  • For the stainless steel plates and acrylic cases:
    • 32 M2 6mm screws
    • 16 M2 11mm standoffs

Switch plates are compatible with MX and Alps switches and support MX switch top removal. Note that for the non-1u cutouts however, the switches won't have anything on the plate to grab on to, so you need to be careful with alignment when soldering the switch.

The design files used for the Iris will be made available here, in case you'd like to make your own pieces: Iris Case Files

    Middle layer

This middle layer is used to hide the guts of the keyboard from showing. For now, a LED diffuse white acrylic layer will be offered that's compatible with the stainless steel plates and the design posted on GitHub.

Note: This is not compatible with the PCB plates with the 5 interior screws.
