Iris PE (Phoenix Edition) Case/Plates
$12.99Case parts for the Iris keyboard. The cases consists of two sets of parts, top/bottom plates and middle layers. The middle layers are optional and can be added in between the top and bottom plates at any time.
Compatibility Notes
These Phoenix Edition (PE) of case parts are compatible with the Rev. 5/6/7 PCBs, as well as the Rev. 3 & 4 PCBs with the TRRS jack. Older Rev. 3 & 4-only case parts (Legacy Edition) are not compatible with the parts on this page due to changes in screw/standoff holes to accommodate the change of the TRRS port to USB-C for interconnect.
However, if using Rev. 3 or Rev. 4 PCBs, you may need to order longer standoffs due to the TRRS jack if using acrylic plates. You'll need 10mm standoffs for the acrylic plates. For the FR4 or stainless steel plates, the already included 10mm standoffs in the kit will work fine.
PCBs not included.
Top/Bottom Plates
Plates for the Iris are offered in these variants:
-
FR4 material
- Switch plates have black on both sides
- 1.6mm thick
- B-Stock version: Has small marks along the perimeter of the switch plates and dot marks on the bottom plates
- Acrylic
- 3mm thick
- B-Stock versions: Has dings/marks along the outer edge of the plates. Plate surfaces should still be okay.
- Stainless Steel
- 16 gauge (1.56mm) 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish
- B-Stock version: Has various scratches and marks on them, so you will probably need to sand and polish them
Plate Kits Include:
- 2 Switch plates
- 2 Bottom plates
- 40 M2 6mm screws
- For Acrylic Plates:
- 20 M2 9mm standoffs
- For FR4 and Stainless Steel Plates:
- 20 M2 10mm standoffs
Switch plates are compatible with MX and Alps switches and support MX switch top removal. Note that for the non-1u cutouts however, the switches won't have anything on the plate to grab on to, so you need to be careful with alignment when soldering the switch.
The design files used for the Iris are available here, in case you'd like to make your own pieces: Iris Case Files
B-Stock Plates:
The B-Stock plates may have the following defects:
- Uneven edges
- Scratches
- Marks that can't be cleaned off
These will work great with a 3D-printed case, as any issues will be covered up by the printed pieces. Structurally and functionally, these pieces are the same as A-stock ones.
Middle layer
This 10mm thick middle layer is used to encase the area between the top and bottom plates. Most pieces actually measure between 9.4-9.8mm, so 9mm standoffs have been included to prevent the mid pieces from rattling. Replace the 10mm standoffs that comes with the FR4 or Stainless Steel plate kits with the 9mm ones. 9mm standoffs are already included with acrylic plates. Compatible with the stainless steel, aluminum, or acrylic plates, and the design posted on GitHub.
Info on B-Stock Middle Layers:
The B-Stock middle layers may have the following defects:
- Machining bumps at corners
- Marks around standoff holes
- Uneven edges
Tenting:
For the tented middle layer, you can use M6 or 1/4" carriage bolts and nuts to tent the board. These are not included with the middle layer, since every person's needs for the degree of tenting varies. You can get these bolts and nuts at a hardware store. See installation video below:
